2.4.8.16. Check of a gap in the lock of a piston ring

Fig. 2.342. Check of a gap in the lock of a piston ring

To check a gap in the lock of a piston ring, insert a piston ring into the cylinder. The piston push a ring on distance of 105 mm from the surface of the block of cylinders, as shown in the figure 2.342.

Fig. 2.343. Measurement of a gap in the lock of a piston ring

Measure by the flat probe a gap in the lock (fig. 2.343).
Standard gap:
compression
ring No. 1 – 0,25–0,35 mm;
compression
ring No. 2 – 0,35–0,45 mm;
oil scraper ring (on scrapers) – 0,15-0,40mm.
Maximum gap:
compression ring No. 1 – 0,95 mm;
compression ring No. 2 – 1,05 mm;
oil scraper ring (on scrapers) – 1,00 mm.
If the gap in the lock is more than maximum, replace a piston ring. If the gap in the lock is more maximum even with a new piston ring, chisel all cylinders or replace the block of cylinders.
