Side SRS airbags (Supplemental Restraint System-auxiliary a security system) are designed for ensuring additional protection of the driver and the forward passenger in addition to the main protection provided with seat belts.

In response to strong side blow side SRS airbags work by inflation together with seat belts for reduction of injuries. Side SRS airbags help to reduce, mainly, injuries of a thorax of the driver or the forward passenger. The side SRS airbag on the party of the passenger is put in action even if on a front seat there is no passenger.

ATTENTION Side SRS airbags are inflated with significant force. In order to avoid possible death or serious injuries at their operation the driver and the forward passenger have to: – to be properly fastened by the seat belts; – to sit directly on the places, having leaned back on a seatback.

The system of side SRS airbags can not work if the car undergoes side crash under a certain corner or to collision in that place of a body of the car where shock influence does not influence salon, as shown in the drawing.

Side SRS airbags are designed for inflation at strong side blow to which the zone of salon will undergo.

For safety of all passengers they have to be always properly fastened by seat belts.

Side SRS airbags are designed in such a way that they will not be inflated if the car undergoes collision in front or behind if it turns over or will have an accident with side crash at a low speed.

The system of side SRS airbags consists of the following main components which arrangement is shown in the figure 1.110:

1. Control lamp of the SRS system;

2. Modules of side airbags (airbag and delivery device);

3. Sensors of side airbags;

4. Knot of sensors of pneumopillows of safety.

The system of side SRS airbags copes in knot of sensors of airbags. The knot of sensors of airbags consists of sensors of admissible influence and sensors of operation of airbags.

At strong side blow the sensor of the side airbag puts delivery devices of side airbags in action. At this time chemical reaction in delivery devices quickly fills airbags with nontoxical gas for deduction of passengers from the movement aside.

This system of side SRS airbags has the control indicator for informing the driver on malfunctions in work. In case one of the following states takes place, it means malfunction of airbags. Contact your dealer of Toyota as soon as possible for carrying out maintenance of the car.

– The light indicator is highlighted if the key turns in the provision of "ON", or more than 6 pages continue to burn.

– The light indicator is highlighted during the movement.
